Attorney John Hill obtains defense verdict on behalf of local hospital and nurses

In November of 2007, Attorney John Hill of our Bethlehem office successfully obtained a defense verdict exonerating a local hospital and several of its nurses in a medical malpractice action.  The underlying facts of the case allege that a patient was receiving calcium chloride by way of an IV needle.  It is alleged that several nurses failed to properly insert and monitor the IV needle, which allowed calcium chloride to infuse in the patient’s left arm.  As a result of the infiltration, the patient received 3rd degree burns to his forearm resulting in tissue necrosis.  The patient required extensive reconstructive surgery.

During the course of trial, Attorney Hill provided the 12-member jury with dramatic, demonstrative evidence by the nurses as to how an IV would be placed and monitored by the nursing team.  Their testimony was supplemented by a nursing expert retained by Attorney Hill.

After 4-days of trial, the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict in favor of the hospital and the nurses.
